MORGANTOWN — The Kidde Corporation has issued a recall of on certain dual-sensor models of smoke alarms sold between September 2016 and January 2018.
The recall affects about 452,000 battery and hard-wired smoke alarms that were sold at various home and hardware retailers, Walmart, and online sources such as Amazon. During the manufacturing process, a protective yellow cap may have been left on one of the smoke sensors which would compromise the detectors ability to properly function.
The Morgantown Fire Department and Code Enforcement Department encourages all residents to immediately check their smoke alarms to determine if they may be affected by the recall. Consumers can check to see whether their smoke detector has been recalled by contacting Kidde toll-free at 1-833-551-7739 or by going to kidde.com and clicking on “Product Safety Recall.” Kidde has provided an identification guide on their website to help consumers determine if they have one of the models recalled. If recalled, consumers can contact Kidde to receive a free replacement and instructions on returning the smoke alarm.
Residents of rental properties that may need special assistance identifying the model of detector should contact their landlord. Homeowners in the city needing any special assistance identifying their smoke detector may call the Morgantown Fire Department at 304-284-7480 or the Code Enforcement Department at 304-284-7401.
