WHEELING — The University boys’ and girls’ tennis teams each moved to 1-0 this season with wins March 19, at Wheeling Central, 6-1.
“Overall, great first match,” head coach Tim McClellan said. “Everyone worked hard and really hustled.”
BOYS’ SINGLES: 1, UHS Drew Hawthorne (UHS) won, 8-2; 2, Kyle Hawthorne (UHS) won, 8-4; 3, Jackson Rutledge (UHS) fell, 8-4; 4, Deiland Slaughter (UHS) won, 8-0.
BOYS’ DOUBLES: 1, Drew Hawthorne and Kyle Hawthorne (UHS) won, 8-3; 2, Tommy McClellan and Andre Barcinas (UHS) won, 8-6; 3, Jameson Walters and Levi Watson (UHS) won, 8-0.
GIRLS’ SINGLES: 1, Maya Gharib (UHS) fell, 8-0; 2, Grace Valenzuela (UHS) won, 8-1; 3, Macy Schlobohn (UHS) won, 8-1; 4, Emma Watson (UHS) won, 8-0.
GIRLS’ DOUBLES: 1, Maya Gharib and Grace Valenzuela (UHS) won, 8-6; 2, Madison Johnson and Clara lehki (UHS) won, 8-0; 3, Natalie Wonsettler and Lucy Roh (UHS) won, 8-1.
