MORGANTOWN — Snow may be blooming in the air today for the first day of spring, depending upon how two storm systems over the Mid-Atlantic and New England decided to align themselves Monday night.
“That’s what we’re looking at right now,” AccuWeather meteorologist John Gresiak said earlier Monday.
So, how much snow?
“That’s going to depend on elevation,” he said.
Forecasters are calling for a chance of 1-3 inches of snow in Morgantown, Gresiak said, although he doubts there will be that much accumulation.
“I think you’ll see more rain than snow,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service put out a winter storm watch for eastern Preston and Tucker counties, along with Garrett County, Md.
The watch kicks in this afternoon and will stay in place through Wednesday afternoon.
Those areas could potentially receive 8-inch snowfalls or better, Gresiak said.
The first day of spring in Morgantown is also expected to bring a high of 42 and lows around 30.
Look for colder temperatures Wednesday with the additional possibility of snow. The mercury will stay parked in the 40s through the weekend after that, Gresiak said.
“Somebody,” he said, “forgot to tell the atmosphere that it’s spring.”
