Woman struck by vehicle on Patteson Drive

A 30-year-old Fairmont woman was struck by a vehicle as she stepped into the roadway on Patteson Drive, early Thursday morning.

The accident was reported to MECCA 911 at about 1 a.m. in the area of Chick-fil-A, a supervisor said.

According to Chief Ed Preston of the Morgantown Police:

The woman “had checked out of the hospital against medical advice just prior to the incident and was transported back to Ruby (Memorial Hospital) pending involuntary commitment processing.”

The vehicle received minor damage and was driven away by the owner.

No charges are pending against the driver.

Names of the driver and the pedestrian were not released by Morgantown Police.

This was the third vehicle-pedestrian accident on Patteson and/or Mon Boulevard since Feb. 1.

Leah Berhanu, 21, of Morgantown, was struck by a vehicle Feb. 1 as she attempted to walk across Patteson in a crosswalk near Evansdale Crossing.

Berhanu died of her injuries and Michelle Gelada, 20, of Watagh, N.Y., was charged with negligent homicide.

Sara Queen, 20, a WVU student from Weston, was critically injured Feb. 20, when she was hit in a crosswalk by a pickup truck.

Queen was crossing Monongahela Boulevard between the WVU Coliseum and Creative Arts Center.

Charges have not been filed in that accident.
