Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

MORGANTOWN — A driver was arrested after police said he had drugs and a firearm in his vehicle.

Asim Kahlaid Mack Jr., 22, of Philadelphia, was being held pending arraignment for possession with intent to sell and deliver controlled substances and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

According to a press release, at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Morgantown Police offers saw a red Ford Taurus run the red light at the intersection of Spruce and Pleasant Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop in front of the police station. The driver of the vehicle, Mack, denied having possession of a driver’s license at the time of the stop and provided the officer with a fictitious name.

The investigation continued, and officers seized heroin, a 9mm pistol with an obliterated serial number, and more than $4,000.

Police said Mack was convicted of felony charges previously in Pennsylvania.
