Kingwood Council looks to open city pool

KINGWOOD — It’s snowing now, but Kingwood Council is looking ahead to opening the city pool this summer, after a five-year closure.

At a budget work session Jan. 23, Recorder Bill Robertson said he asked Parks and Recreation Supervisor Kevin Stiles to prepare estimates on the cost to open the pool.

The Kingwood Pool is one of two publicly owned pools in Preston County. If the opening proceeds, the pool won’t have all the features the city eventually hopes to add or all those it previously had, but Robertson said it would show progress and allow citizens to show whether they will support a pool.

Council will consider whether to proceed with the pool opening at its Feb. 13 meeting.

According to The Dominion Post archives, the pool closed in 2013 because of a variety of problems, many caused by a prior council’s decision to enclose it. The pool was built in the 1950s.
