MORGANTOWN — Teriyaki, quell, vigilante and ocelot might seem like a random assortment of words, but they were all words that participants in Monongalia County Schools Spelling Bee needed to spell correctly in Thursday’s contest if they wanted to advance to the next round.
The contest was open to fifth through eighth graders in public and private schools, including Trinity Christian School, Covenant Christian School, St. Francis Central Catholic School and Alliance Christian School, he said.
In addition to being eligible to compete in regionals, the five winners — Carter Herron, Elena Kurov, Millie Brown, Lauren Shen and Pearl Zhang — each received a trophy.
