MORGANTOWN — Four hours – 40 wrecks.
That fierce spate of snow Jan. 16 kept MECCA 911 dispatchers moving for their entire afternoon shift, director Jim Smith said.
A total of 400 calls came in between 2:30-10:30 p.m., as the snow swirled and vehicles slid into other vehicles or off roads altogether.
“I’ll tell you what,” he said, “our dispatchers did a fantastic job keeping everything together and making sure people got help and were safe.”
No major injuries were reported among those calls.
A total of 56 fender-benders were reported Wednesday, Smith said, with 40 of those calls coming in between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., alone.
“I’m just waiting for the warm weather to come back,” he said.
