MORGANTOWN — The Morgantown High girls’ basketball team trailed top-ranked Buckhannon-Upshur by one point at halftime of the Jan. 13 game, at the Rowdy Center.
MHS couldn’t spring the upset in the second half, as B-U held on for a 43-34 victory. Hanna McClung scored a game-high 19 points and Lauren Bennett scored all 11 of her points in the second half for the Buccaneers.
The Mohigans managed only 13 second-half points.
“We turned it over too much against their pressure,” MHS coach Jason White said. “I thought we had opportunities. We had openings. We just got sped up and played faster than we are capable of playing.”
Sydni Clawges paced the Mohigans (8-3) with 10 points. Aleena McDaniel and Kaitlyn Ammons scored nine apiece.
The Mohigans’ junior varsity squad (7-0) topped B-U, 52-20. Anna Iquinto scored 11 points and Savannah Dews added 10.
