KINGWOOD — Andrew Lantz tallied 18 points Dec. 20 and Preston High got off to a hot start on its way to its first boys’ basketball win of the season, 55-39, over Lewis County.
The Knights (1-5) surged to a 13-2 lead after a quarter. Preston snagged 41 rebounds as a team, dominating the boards.
Jake Livengood contributed 11 points for PHS, which next plays Tuesday, at Buckhannon-Upshur.
Brad Smith had 20 points to lead Lewis County.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Southern Garrett 49, University 42: OAKLAND, Md. — The Hawks (2-4) couldn’t hang on to a 34-33 lead after three quarters and fell to the Rams. Ashten Boggs had 20 points and Zoe Murphy 12 for UHS, which next plays Friday, at Buckhannon-Upshur.

Southern Garrett 31, University 21: Kathryn Lerfald led the Hawks (1-3) with five points.
BOYS’ JV
Preston 70, Lewis County 65: John Loughrie scored 23 points and Mason Hall added 17 for the Knights (3-1). Chase Wyant and Kyle Gannon netted 19 each for Lewis County.
MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS
St. Francis 8s 42, Westwood 36: Jonathan Moore netted 11 points to lead the Trojans (5-1).
