Local man pleads not guilty to child porn charges

MORGANTOWN — A man who allegedly possessed child pornography, another accused of attempting to take a weapon from a deputy, and one police say robbed a gaming parlor all pleaded not guilty to their suspected crimes.

They were among more than 30 people who appeared before Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Phillip Gaujot on Wednesday to plead to their indictments from the January term of the Grand Jury.

David C. Berentsen, 75, is accused of one count of possession of minors engaged in sexually explicit activity.

According to his criminal complaint: In August, sheriff’s deputies began an investigation after a Yahoo email address uploaded child pornography. Deputies traced the email address to a Laurel Court residence, where Berentsen lived.

He admitted to seeing child pornography, but not distributing images.

Berentsen faces two to 10 years in prison if convicted.
