Prep roundup: Preston girls beat East Fairmont

KINGWOOD — Makenzie Friend netted 20 points and snagged 10 rebounds Jan. 11, leading Preston to a 56-50 girls’ basketball win against East Fairmont.

The Knights made five fewer baskets and two fewer 3-pointers than the Bees, but won the game with good free throw shooting. They were 25 of 36 from the line, while the Bees sunk just 7 of 14.

Taylor Mayne tallied 11 points for Preston on just one basket — she was 9 of 11 from the line.

Preston as a team shot 13 for 17 in the key fourth quarter.

“We were down one point going into the fourth,” PHS coach Brian Miller said, “and I think they extended that to four. Then we went on a nice 10-0 run to get up six with about three minutes left, and that made (the Bees) have to come to us and foul us.”
