Paul Hart

Paul Joseph Hart, known as “Paul Joe” to most, passed away at the age of 81 in the comfort of his home on September 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul Joe was born in Morgantown to Henry and Sarah Dalton Hart on March 26, 1943.

Paul Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Velma Jean Murray Hart; his son, Tim (Sherry) Hart and daughter, Pastor Donna Dalton; his grandchildren, Jodi (Joey) McDonald, Tara (TJ) Burns, Derik (Taylene) Hart and Brian (Jodi) Hart; and his great-grandchildren, Braxton Burns, Layce McDonald, Jaxon Burns, Mylee McDonald and Tenley, Hudson and Teyson Hart, who will carry forth his legacy. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, notably his nephew, Bob, with whom he shared a special bond and work life since Bob was 16 years old.

For more than 50 years, he was the esteemed owner and operator of Hart Lumber.

He loved gardening flowers and vegetables and watching Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Paul Joe was also an avid player of the card game Rook, enjoying many an afternoon beneath his pavilion, entertaining neighbors and family alike.

Paul Joe never missed Sunday school and held a special place for Ms. Kynslee and Chuggie, who shared his love and affection. Within the walls of his church, he occupied a special seat — a silent testament to his dedication and service.

He was a man of routine and simplicity, represented by his 2 p.m. naps. Above all, Paul Joe was immensely proud of his grandchildren, rarely missing a school or community event they were a part of. His presence was a constant in their lives, offering support and love in abundance.

As the last surviving member of his original family, he was preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Albert, Lloyd, Henry June, Bert and Ray Hart; and his sisters, Hazel Barr and Edith Dalton.

Friends and family will gather at the Mt. View Pentecostal Church from 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, until time of service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, with Pastors Donna Dalton, Casper Dalton and the Rev. Gary Blosser officiating. He will rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
