Here’s a fun craft to do while cooling off inside

When the Fourth of July is through the week like this year, we always like to spend the whole weekend celebrating the holiday. That’s when family can come to visit and we can have a nice relaxing time. We always enjoy a cookout, playing outside, letting the kids play with little Pop-Its firecrackers, and seeing fireworks our town puts on.

This year, we plan on doing all that again, but we have to make adjustments due to the weather. The temperature is supposed to be close to triple digits and that is too hot for my kiddos to be outside all day. So, I found a cute little craft they can do to help celebrate the holiday.

You will need an empty toilet paper roll, a paper plate, patriotic color paints, scissors and white or black construction paper.

First,  cut your toilet paper rolls about 2/3 vertically from the bottom toward the top. Make those cuts all the way around the bottom of the toilet paper roll, about 1/2-inch apart. When all the cuts are made, carefully press the cardboard pieces out so that it looks like a firework. This will act as a “fireworks” stamp.

Next, get your paint out and put some on the paper plate. You can use red, white, blue, silver, gold, or even glitter paint for your fireworks colors. Then, have the kids dip the “stamp”  into the paint and then onto their paper. Have them layer different colors on the paper to create beautiful fireworks.

This is the perfect craft for any age  to do while they are cooling off in the house over the weekend. If you are worried about little kids getting paint on their clothes or themselves, you can look for washable paint and also put on an old T-shirt that you don’t mind them getting paint on.

So, make sure to have a fun and festive weekend with your family. I hope this craft idea is a hit in your house!
