Mansberger makes final pass through Sabraton area

Paul Leroy Mansberger, who died earlier this month, was laid to rest Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

But first, Smith Funeral & Cremation Care led a procession from Westover to the cemetery, passing the location of Leroy’s beloved Esso station.

Leroy was a self-employed mechanic and owned Leroy’s Service Station, the old Esso Station behind McDonald’s in Sabraton, for many years.

It was a gathering place for Leroy and his customers.

After he closed the station and sold the property, the new owner allowed Leroy and his buddies to come to the station everyday to shoot the breeze, solve the world’s problems and complain about taxes.

He also enjoyed talking about his time in the service.

He was a United States Army veteran who was stationed in France during the Cold War.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Shoemaker Mansberger; a brother, Daniel Mansberger; and his “adopted daughter,” Melody Mancini.

Leroy, 89, died June 12 at Morgantown Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Morgantown, a son of the late Paul and Ruby Shaffer Mansberger.
