Lowell Shaffer

Lowell David Shaffer, of Morgantown, passed away at his home on April 22, 2024, of natural causes.

He was born April 22, 1946. He was the son of the late David Nelson Shaffer and Iva Snider.

He will be remembered by Sabraton School survivors when he, as a first grader, sang “How Much is that Doggie in the Window” in a school assembly. He graduated in 1964 from University High School under the tutelage of Gloria Cunningham and his good friend, Francis Wade. He also played clarinet in the band.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, followed by his work in Morgantown, Pittsburgh and finally, Washington, D.C. Working in the offices of the FFA for more than 20 years, he was the go-to man for computer problems.

After retirement, his favorite activities were spending time on the phone discussing NASCAR and other auto races with his cousin, Gary Shaffer. His favorite activity, however, was going to Altoona and Grafton to watch the trains and Train Journeys on DVD.

He is survived by one sister, Carolyn (Vincent) Peskar, of Morgantown; one niece, Cheryl (Neil) Dennis, of Morgantown; two nephews, Stephen (Kim) Peskar, of Stonewall, La., and Matthew (Susan) Peskar, of Morgantown; and his very special friends, Ginny Sue Ridgeway, Francis Wade and Donna Wade Johnson, all of Morgantown, and Gary (Vickie) Shaffer, of Beaver Falls, Pa.

As per his wishes, no public services will be held. Lowell will be cremated, and inurnment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.
